5 Simple Tips To Boost Your Health

If you want to live a fulfilling life it all starts with a healthy mind and body. Ever wonder why some people get sick all the time while others barely get a runny nose? The biggest reason is their immune system. And the best way to build a strong immune system and stay well is by eating right and getting plenty of exercise.

Easier said than done you might be thinking, but it really doesn’t have to be, here are five health and wellness tips we can all live by that are easy to incorporate in your life.

1. Drink Plenty of Water

Staying hydrated is extremely important for health and weight loss. You should try to drink at least 8 glasses of water each and every day. If you workout you should aim to drink more than that as you will lose a lot of water through sweat. Whenever you go out for the day make sure you have some water with you. This way you can take a sip whenever you feel thirsty.

2. Get Enough Sleep

Unfortunately, most people don’t get nearly enough rest these days. We all have such hectic schedules and lots of distractions keeping us awake. We go to bed late and wake up early. But what you may not realize is that not getting enough sleep can lead to many complications. When you are sleep deprived, it’s not just your mind and body that feel tired, it’s your fat cells too! When your body is sleep deprived, it suffers from “metabolic grogginess” a term coined by University of Chicago researchers who analysed the effect of sleep deprivation*. Lack of sleep also makes us crave sugary food and makes it a lot harder to generate the will power to go and workout.

As an adult you should be getting at least 7 hours of sleep every night.

3. Exercise Regularly

As we all know exercise has a ton of health benefits. Not only does it keep your heart strong but it helps you lose weight, keep your blood pressure in check, your bones strong and so much more. That’s why you should make it a point to exercise at least 3 times a week. This doesn’t need to be anything major. A brisk walk around the neighborhood will be very beneficial.

4. Eat Healthy Snacks

Snacking is the one thing that can add a ton of unwanted calories to your everyday diet. So if you know you are a big snacker be sure to keep healthy snacks close by at all times and throw out the junk! This includes any processed snack foods, refined sugars, fizzy drinks, crisps and sweets. All these do is crash your energy levels (after an initial, artificial ‘high’) and your body fat levels up.

Stock up on fruit, vegetables, nuts, rice cakes and healthy dips like cottage cheese, natural yoghurt, hummus and nut butters to snack on. That way you can satisfy your cravings without packing on the pounds around your waistline.

5. Never Skip Meals

Skipping meals just might be one of the worst things you could ever do to your body. Food is the fuel that keeps your body going. When you skip meals your metabolism gets all out-of-whack. And when your metabolism is out of whack you will have a hard time losing weight if that is your goal. So make sure you are feeding your body nutritious food every 2 or 3 hours.

Load up on chicken, fish, fruits and plenty of vegetables. It’s okay to indulge every once in a while, but make sure it’s not an everyday thing. The key is to indulge in moderation.
